Youngster Xavi Simons returns to PSG. Why can his arrival hint at the future of Neymar and Mbappé?
France’s Paris Saint-Germain will soon announce the return of young midfielder Xavi Simons, who will return after a year in the Netherlands.
France’s Paris Saint-Germain will soon announce the return of young midfielder Xavi Simons, who will return after a year in the Netherlands.
The Dutch footballer left PSG last summer and joined PSV Eindhoven completely free of charge. At first glance, the French champion’s move might have seemed incomprehensible.
Xavi Simons was one of the very talented footballers. Although he wasn’t given that much space, a guest appearance or at least a fee-based transfer was expected.
However, PSG knew very well what they were doing and incorporated a clause in the contract that entitles them to bring the footballer back for just €6 million. For today’s times and especially for such a club, this is a negligible amount.
Given his performances last season, it would be a surprise if they didn’t take this option. Simons played thirty-four games in the Dutch league, scoring nineteen goals and assisting nine more.
According to Transfermarket, his current market value is around €40 million. A great deal from the French club.
Moreover, his arrival may indicate a lot about the future of one of the pair Neymar and Kylian Mbappé.
Xavi will only stay at the club if one of the pair leaves the club. Otherwise, he will leave on a year-long loan without any option to buy. A decision is due to be made on Tuesday.
Leipzig are the biggest suitors to get the Dutch footballer. The player himself is reportedly convinced that this is the best possible option for his development.
