The players of Slavia followed up their great performance in the European Conference League in Istanbul with another victory in the rematch in Eden and advanced to the next round. The heroes of the match were young Nigerian Yira Sor and Ukrainian captain Taras Kacharaba.

Slavia won the rematch with Fenerbahce

Slavia Prague footballers won 3:2 against Turkish rivals Fenerbahce Istanbul in a beautiful match rich in football chances. Although the home team was plagued by a large squad, the home players passed the difficult European test and advanced to the next stage of the European Conference League.

The game was high tempo from the opening whistle and Slavia showed an attractive style full of movement and predatory play. In the eighth minute Oscar Dorley had an excellent chance, but his shot from the goal line was turned away to safety by the visitors.

The first goal of the game didn’t take long to come, however, and in the 19th minute Ivan Schranz opened the scoring after a scramble in the visitors’ penalty area.

The home team clearly dominated the field, which resulted in the Prague team increasing their lead. Eight minutes later, 21-year-old Nigerian Yira Sor scored with an uncatchable shot.

Although the Sešiovans could have increased their lead before going to the booths, the Turkish team managed to reduce the difference to a single goal with a rare chance at the end of the half, which was set up by a shot from outside the box by Yandas.

Slavia continued to play attractively after the change of sides. Nigerian Sor, the scorer of the second goal, was especially active. He missed the opponent’s goal in a huge chance, but in the 63rd minute he made sure to give the Turkish goalkeeper no chance with an uncompromising shot.

The young striker could have added another goal, but in the face of Bayindir he could not get past the Turkish goalkeeper. At the very end, the Turkish team managed to reduce the deficit after a goal by Berisha.

Two goals were scored by the young Nigerian Sor

Yira Sor appreciated the quality of the opponent and expressed his joy for his first goal in the Susiovan jersey. “It was a really good opponent, they had a lot of good players,” Sor, the hero of the match, confirmed the quality of the Turkish opponent from a football point of view in the post-match interview.

“I’m really happy, I scored two goals and helped my team,” he gushed. “Our team played a responsible game, I liked the collective concept of the team and it’s an important win for us,” he added.

Kacharaba described his discomfort with the situation in Ukraine

It was certainly a special night for Slavia’s captain, Ukrainian Taras Kacharaba, especially because of the growing conflict in his country. “For me it was perhaps the most difficult match of my career, especially mentally,” said the captain of the home team.

“I was looking at my phone and the news all day and it was hard for me to concentrate on the match. I want to thank the club and the fans for the way they supported me,” he described the difficult preparation for the important match. “I am proud to be Ukrainian. I want to thank the guys who defend our territory. Glory to Ukraine,” concluded Kacharaba.

The Sešiovans managed to beat Fenerbahce in the second match and move on. On Friday at 13:00, the draw will take place in Nyon, where Slavia will learn the name of their next opponent.
