A player from a lower English competition could not withstand the taunts from the opposition and saw a red card for his subsequent brutal tackle. You just don’t see incidents like that happening in a suspended game.

  • An unusual incident has occurred in England’s seventh division
  • During stoppage time, the visitors made fun of the home striker
  • He made a brutal tackle and walked off the pitch

English football is being rocked by a two-day-old incident. But it didn’t happen in the globally watched Premier League, but in the seventh highest competition. Billericay Town players made a nasty joke on a teammate while he was being treated. The incident was reported by sport.cz.

Home Folkestone striker Tom Derry watched on as the referee had one of the visiting players treated. Meanwhile, he tried to go for the ball, but visiting full-back Matt Johnson slid it to his goalkeeper Sam Donkin.

The latter began to juggle the round nonsense and sent the ball back to Johnson via the oncoming Derry. The defender, after a couple of dummies, returned the ball to Donkin, who worked it spectacularly with his foot and continued to juggle.

The incident left the rest of the players quiet

However, Derry couldn’t take it anymore and brought Donkin down with a brutal hooker. He then pounced on him, swinging him around and apparently shouting something in his face. Then he tripped the ball. It’s a bit of a wonder that the other players were quite calm about it.

The referee resolved the situation and eventually sent off the home forward. Billericay added one more goal in the powerplay and in the end his players enjoyed a clear 3:0 triumph, which took them to third place in the table. Folkestone are 14th out of 22 teams.

Derry’s reaction was certainly over the top, but the behaviour of the Billericay players is certainly up for debate. Considering that the whole incident took place in stoppage time, it really wasn’t very sporting of them to make this joke.

So a competition that is on par with the Czech regional competitions in terms of performance at least got some unexpected publicity. You just don’t see the names Billericay and Folkestone floating around the world’s internet.
