Australia and New Zealand are hosting the Women’s World Cup and the first matches of each group are behind us. We have already seen some surprises, but also some beautiful football moments. Most recently, it was the players from Brazil who made the football world go crazy.
Australia and New Zealand are hosting the Women’s World Cup and the first matches of each group are behind us. We have already seen some surprises, but also some beautiful football moments. Most recently, it was the players from Brazil who made the football world go crazy.
Women’s football is on the rise and this is confirmed this year as the Women’s World Cup is currently taking place in Australia and New Zealand. A record championship and record attendances are again expected.
For now, the tournament is certainly entertaining. There are surprises, even results, but also wonderful football moments. The favourites are of course the players of the United States of America, who hold four titles.
So far, only four countries have won the Women’s World Cup; outside of the United States, the Germans have been world champions twice, while Norway and Japan have one title each.
Brazil, which holds the record number of trophies in men’s football, is waiting for its first triumph. So far, it has only finished second in 2007 and won bronze in the 1990s. But this year, it has entered the tournament in style.
In the very first match, the Brazilians swept Panama in style. They won 4:0 and the football public has two themes. Firstly, the fantastic debut of twenty-three-year-old Ara Borges, and secondly, one of the goals she did not miss.
Borges scored her first hat-trick for the national team, but to make matters worse, she also added an assist for the most beautiful goal of the whole championship so far, when Bia Zaneratto increased the score to 3:0.
After the first round, Brazil are top of their group. The French women only drew goalless with the Jamaican women. It is France that the South American players will face in their next match.
