Yamal did what he wanted with Camavinga, Barcelona cost Cancelo a point
Real Madrid beat Barcelona 3:2 in El Clasico. Lucas Vázquez played a major role in Real’s favor with an unwanted contribution from Joao Cancelo, who was also the scorer of all the opponent’s goals. However, after a well-chosen tactic against Manchester City, Ancelotti’s move with Camavinga almost backfired.
Real Madrid beat Barcelona 3:2 in El Clasico. Lucas Vázquez played the main role in favor of Real with the unwanted contribution of Joao Cancelo, who was also all the goals of the opponent. However, after a well-chosen tactic against Manchester City, Ancelotti’s move with Camavinga almost backfired.
Yamal was unstoppable
The biggest weapon of the current Barcelona is not Robert Lewandowski, to the astonishment of most fans, but 16-year-old Lamile Yamal. The Barcelona teenager also performed brilliantly in the Champions League against Nuno Mendes, who is one of the fastest defenders in the world. Yamal also caused problems for Real’s defence.
With Ferland Mendy only on the bench and Eduardo Camavinga in the starting lineup, that’s what Ancelotti’s lineup sounded like. However, Camavinga showed that he is not as strong in defensive one-on-one duels as Mendy. Rather, then, Yamal showed this weakness. The Spaniard did what he wanted with the French (for this game) defender and more than once the cross didn’t wind up with a penalty.
However, after one of Camavingo’s penetrations, he extinguished the situation only with a yellow card foul. On Barcelona’s 2nd goal it was Yamal who was all alone on the edge of the box and could have shot. The Frenchman didn’t get to his opponent in time, and even at such a young age Yamal knew how to handle himself.
Cancelo burnt out
Most people will probably just see a great game from Lucas Vázquez, but did anyone notice the horrendous defending from Cancelo? The Portuguese defender first allowed Real a penalty kick after a clear foul on Vázquez of all people. Vinicius Junior knew how to deal with the penalty and equalised at 1-1.
Real’s second goal? Cancelo took no notice of Vázquez. Bellingham, Valverde, and Vinicius exchanged the ball well on the left side. When Vinicius decided to take the ball with his left foot, the unguarded Vázquez appeared out of nowhere on the right wing and equalized for the second time in the match. Cancelo didn’t catch the pass at all and was standing in different spaces than he should have been.
It was the 1st set minute of the 2nd half when Brahim Díaz headed the ball into the opponent’s half. The situation looked hopeless, with the fresh Moroccan rushing into an outnumbered opponent. However, he thought better of his move and held the ball waiting for support and it came from the right. The indefatigable Vázquez disappeared from Cancelo’s sight, centred and Jude Bellingham most likely decided the title in Real’s favour.
But time and again Vázquez was given a heap of space on the right. Cancelo was well and truly away from the Spaniard, allowing Vázquez to calmly survey the situation in the whitewash and send in a shot from first touch. Cancelo’s lukewarmness in the defensive phase cost Barcelona at least a point.
