Xhaka worse than Roy Keane? The Arsenal midfielder is the butt of jokes and criticism. Look at his sending off against Liverpool
Arsenal faced Liverpool in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup, but their chances of advancing were minimised in the 24th minute by Granit Xhaka, who picked up a red card for himself and became the butt of jokes and criticism. Watch his sending off.
Arsenal took on Liverpool in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup, but their chances of progression were reduced in the 24th minute by Granit Xhaka, who earned himself a red card and became the butt of jokes and criticism. Watch his sending off.
Thursday’s Arsenal v Liverpool match did not start well for the Gunners. In the ninth minute Cedric Soares had to be taken off the pitch due to injury and was replaced by Calum Chambers.
But it didn’t end there. In the 24th minute, Liverpool could have had a goal scoring opportunity, but Granit Xhaka prevented his opponent from scoring with a foul that rightfully earned him a red card. This would have been awarded without a doubt even if the Arsenal player had not prevented the opponent from having a 100% chance.
It was the fifth red card for the Swiss midfielder since he joined Arsenal at the start of the 2016/17 season. In the entire period, no Premier League player has been sent off more times than him in all competitions combined.
That’s also why he became the butt of jokes from neutral fans and media, but Gunners supporters were no longer in the mood for jokes. No wonder. Arsenal have a derby with Tottenham this weekend, so playing Liverpool shorthanded for most of the game is not a good way to prepare for it.
There have been comments on social media suggesting that Xhaka is a Swiss demo of Sergio Ramos. There was also a comparison to the legendary Roy Keane: “ Granit Xhaka is more Roy Keane than Roy Keane.”
One thing is for sure, a conceded goal would definitely hurt Arsenal less than a sending off. Supporters have once again started talking loudly about selling him. Jose Mourinho, who is at AS Roma, is interested in the Swiss’ services.
The match ended in a 0-0 draw.
