No one can deny Xavi for bringing Barcelona back to the top and winning La Liga with them. However, he is doing very badly in the European Cups, having won only seven games out of 20.

Xavi took over Barcelona in the 2021/22 season with two games left in the Champions League group stage. At that point, the Blaugranas still had promotion in their own hands, only for a draw with Benfica and a defeat to Bayern to send them to the Europa League.

There, Napoli awaited, the first match ended in a draw, Barcelona won the second. In the next round with Galatasaray it was the same, the Culés followed up the initial draw with a win. The first match with Frankfurt ended in a draw, but the German side won at the Camp Nou.

Last season, the draw assigned Barcelona to the group with Viktoria Plzen, Inter Milan and Bayern Munich. The Blaugranas did not build on their opening win against Plzen and subsequently lost twice to Bayern and drew once with Inter. A win in western Bohemia didn’t turn things around.

But in the Europa League came another collapse, after an opening draw with Manchester United came a loss and relegation.

In the current edition, Barcelona got an easier group with Antwerp, Porto and Shakhtar. The Blaugranas won the first three games, but now they fell again to Shakhtar.

Xavi’s record in the European Cups is so dismal. Only 7 wins in 20 matches, six draws and seven defeats.

In the Champions League, Xavi won 5 matches, drew twice and lost five matches. His situation has now become more complicated, he has the same points as Porto in the group and the next game is between the two teams.
