Xavi was furious after Barcelona’s defeat: I’m pissed! It’s an injustice, let the referee speak

Another big problem for Barcelona on the horizon. After losing to Inter in a tough group, they are in third place and if they don’t beat the Italian side in the rematch, they may well be relegated to the Europa League again. That’s why Xavi was so upset after the game.

Bayern are the clear favourites in the group, with a strengthened Barcelona expected to challenge them for top spot. But that’s not the case, the Catalans will fight Inter for second place.

In the duel at the San Siro, the home team was the better team from the start. Barcelona had more possession of the ball, but were not dangerous. Inter, on the other hand, should have had a penalty kick after Eric García’s hand, but the video referee found an offside in the previous situation.

After a while Inter actually scored, but the referee let the situation play out and then ruled offside. However, the packed San Siro had already seen out the first half.

Hakan Calhanoglu stretched from distance and sent Inter into the lead with a precise shot to the bar. After the change of sides, Inter, like a typical Italian team, relied on solid defending and Barcelona went on the pressure.

For a long time, thanks to the home team’s dedicated defensive work, they could not capitalize until Pedri scored in the 67th minute, but the goal was disallowed due to a handball after VAR intervention.

In the 92nd minute came the real excitement. After a Sergio Roberto centre, Dumfries played his hand in the whitewash and the Catalans claimed a penalty. There was a lot of anger, the VAR referee was thorough, but in the end he didn’t give the penalty.

At first glance it looked like a hand, but attentive fans found footage showing Dumfries touching first with his head and then with his hand, in which case a penalty is not correctly whistled.

Xavi couldn’t breathe in the penalty situation. So the lightning flew in the press conference after the game.

“I’m pissed off about the situation we had to go through. It’s a huge injustice. Let the referee speak up and explain! I don’t understand anything, I’m very angry,” the Barcelona coach fumed.
