Xavi Simons finally got the opportunity to fulfill his potential. How is he doing in the Netherlands after his commitment to PSG?
Xavi Simons was until recently considered a prodigy. However, he failed to make it big at Barcelona and it was no different after his transfer to PSG. However, he returned to his homeland in the summer and, still only 19 years old, he is showing that he has definitely not had the last word.
Xavi Simons was until recently considered a prodigy. However, he failed to make it big at Barcelona and it was no different after his transfer to PSG. However, he returned to his homeland in the summer and, still only 19 years old, he is showing that he has definitely not had the last word.
He was born in Amsterdam and has paid huge dividends since he was a youngster. Clubs such as Chelsea and Real Madrid were interested in him, but he eventually chose Barcelona at the age of seven. To make matters worse, he was taken on by the famous agent Mino Raiola.
At the age of 14, Xavi Simons had already signed a contract with Nike, winning the Ballon d’Or youth four times. However, he never made the A-team for Barcelona.
In 2019, he left for PSG, pissing off Barcelona fans. However, few could blame him. He was still only 16 years old and was offered €1 million a year. And in Paris, he was already gradually getting minutes in “Aachen”.
He didn’t play much, but he got a chance to prove himself. But there was a lot of talk about his bad attitude. In the competition of players like Mbappé, Messi and Neymar, he didn’t find it easy to make his mark.
That’s why he headed to his homeland in the summer. He joined PSV Eindhoven. No one knew too much what to expect. However, for the still only 19-year-old prodigy, it was a chance to confirm his potential in adult football.
And so far, he’s doing a great job. As soon as he arrived, he became one of the key figures of the team. In eight games he scored 7 goals and added 2 assists. He’s the team’s top scorer along with Cody Gakpe.
Moreover, in the Europa League Simons will be able to play against teams like Arsenal, Zurich and Bodo/Glimt. Arsenal in particular will be a great test for him, which can really test his qualities.
