It was November 2021. Barcelona were struggling and after the end of Ronald Koeman, they were looking for the ideal coach to take over the team. The chance was given to club legend Xavi, who had coaching experience only in Qatar. However, progress was immediately evident after his arrival. But now his contract is coming to an end. Will he extend?

The new La Liga season is in full swing, with the third round being played this weekend, and Barcelona, as last season’s champions, entered the season with only a year left on their coach’s contract.

Xavi’s future was already discussed during the winter and spring months, however, the former fantastic midfielder himself refused to negotiate, saying that everything can be resolved after the season. But nothing has been signed yet.

The forty-three-year-old coach arrived at Barcelona in November 2021. Immediately after his arrival, Barcelona picked up in terms of play and results, however, he did not see his first success until 2023, after his first full season as coach of the Catalan giant.

The Catalans won the Spanish Super Cup and La Liga under the club legend. All this despite financial problems and therefore limited ability to bring in big signings.

So Xavi doesn’t have an easy job, but what is all the more impressive is how he is doing and how he is able to keep up with Real Madrid, even though the hated rival can throw money around at will.

The Barcelona coach has only had experience in the Qatari league, but he has already managed to coach 92 games at Barcelona with a record of 57 wins, 16 draws and only 19 defeats. And according to his words, he will be able to improve his record even more.

“Everything is in progress. Everything is going quietly and in perfect harmony. There won’t be any problem,” Xavi told a press conference about the situation regarding the negotiations for a new contract.
