Xavi has full confidence, we are honoured to have him as our manager, despite speculation
Barcelona in crisis? The Spanish media may be talking about it, but the Catalan giant doesn’t see it that way. Or at least the club’s management doesn’t. In fact, coach Xavi has received the support of the president of the Catalan capital.
Barcelona in crisis? The Spanish media may be talking about it, but the Catalan giant doesn’t see it that way. Or at least the club’s management doesn’t. In fact, coach Xavi has received the support of the president of the Catalan capital.
Last season he led Barcelona to the title, but in Europe Xavi and his charges struggled. In the Champions League, he failed to advance out of the group, and in the Europa League, he was quickly eliminated. There has been a lot of discussion about whether he is really the right man for the Catalan capital.
Strangely enough, the position of the Barcelona legend is being addressed even now, although there is certainly no reason to panic. The Catalans have lost two of their last four competitive matches, however, one of them was in the league against Real Madrid, the other in the Champions League against Shakhtar Donetsk.
Against both clubs, Barcelona were the better team on the pitch, the role was played primarily by (in)efficiency. While in LaLiga Xavi and his charges hold third position with a loss of four points to first-placed Girona, in the Champions League they are in first place with the same number of points as second-placed Porto.
The situation is therefore not critical. Moreover, we have to take into account that the former phenomenal midfielder has to operate with a very limited budget. That makes his performance all the better.
This season Barcelona have played 17 competitive matches with a record of 12 wins, 3 draws and 2 losses. That is why he has received support from the highest levels of the club.
Xavi is the right man, says Barcelona
According to Mundo Deportivo, club president Joan Laporta has spoken out about the position of Barcelona coach and Xavi can be completely at ease. After all, this is not the first time there has been talk of (uncertainty about his future.
Recently, the coach of the Catalan big club criticized the media, which is said to be responsible for the less than ideal performances of his charges.
“We are in a good position both in the league and in the Champions League. I want to make it clear that, like Deco and other members of the management, we are clearly on Xavi’s side. It is an honour to have him as coach,” the Barcelona boss expressed.
“At this moment it is important to remain united. We have a period where injured players are recovering and Xavi will soon have them available again,” Laporta added.
