There was a lot of interest in him, with Liverpool and Bayern being very vocal about their interest. However, according to the latest reports, Xabi Alonso has decided to stay at Leverkusen, as the Reds are already looking for another replacement for Jürgen Klopp. Who are they looking at?

Based on recent reports in the British media, Xabi Alonso has decided to stay at Leverkusen. This is because Liverpool have given up the fight for the current coach of the Bundesliga table leader and are starting to look elsewhere.

It was Xabi Alonso who was strongly linked with the helm of the famous English club. In fact ever since Jürgen Klopp announced that he would leave Liverpool at the end of the season.

The Guardian reports that the first coaching names on the list are Roberto De Zerbi and Ruben Amorim. The former is currently coaching Brighton, so he has Premier League experience.

The latter is the manager of Sporting Lisbon, who he led to the league title in 2021. And even now, Sporting is the leader of the Portuguese top flight. But it must be added, Xabi Alonso has not announced anything publicly yet, although he has so far made it clear that it is definitely not in his interest to leave Bayer.

The Spanish coach was one of the candidates for the post of Bayern head coach, among others. However, as the Munich giant suspected, Alonso will not be leaving Leverkusen.

Xabi Alonso is staying, who will Bayern bring in?

“Given Bayer Leverkusen’s current success, Alonso is more inclined to stay at the club because he would not want to leave,” said Bayern’s honorary president and supervisory board member Uli Hoeness, whose words were quoted by The Guardian.

Bayern is also looking for a replacement for the current coach. Thomas Tuchel will leave the Bavarian club at the end of the season. Of course, as in the case of Liverpool, Amorim, who is a very positively rated coach, comes into consideration.

However, he has an exit clause in his contract of £17 million, or just under €20 million. As for Alonso, he is expected to stay at Leverkusen until 2025, which is when his exit clause, set at €15 million, comes into effect.
