Xabi Alonso on Schick: He is feeling much better and has made a lot of progress in the last two weeks. When will he be back on the pitch?
The Bundesliga is back, but we still couldn’t see Patrik Schick back on the pitch this weekend, as he continues to be plagued by injuries. However, he is slowly getting better and coach Xabi Alonso has outlined when we could see him.
The Bundesliga is back, but we still couldn’t see Patrik Schick back on the pitch this weekend, as he continues to be plagued by injuries. However, he is slowly getting better and coach Xabi Alonso has outlined when we could see him.
Bayer Leverkusen picked themselves up at the end of the autumn, but they lost their main striker who has frequent health problems. Schick was not even available for the first game of 2023, but his return is in the works.
Adam Hložek’s teammate, who is currently part of the starting lineup, will not start at home on Wednesday. Coach Xabi Alonso has updated the fans on how things are looking for his return.
“Patrik Schick will certainly not be in tomorrow’s line-up. He is feeling much better and has made a lot of progress in the last two weeks. However, it’s probably too early for Dortmund, but he’s getting closer and closer to returning to the pitch,” Alonso said at the press conference.
The 27-year-old striker, who last played in the final Champions League group stage match against Bruges, will therefore not appear in January.
After Bochum on Wednesday and Borussia on Sunday, Bayer will face Augsburg on 3 February. This is the earliest we can expect to see the Czech forward.
However, it’s more likely that the club will wait until February 11, when they play Hoffenheim, to bring him back. After that, the Europa League opener against Monaco is already on the schedule.
