The WTT Contender Series 2024 for table tennis in its new format promises more tournaments and expansion around the world, and most importantly, much better prize money for players!

The WTT Contender Series, which is part of the WTT Series, will feature a minimum of 13 tournaments in 2024, split between five WTT Star Contenders and eight WTT Contenders, providing thrilling competition for the world’s best table tennis players as they work towards earning world ranking points for entry into the WTT Grand Smashes, WTT Champions and WTT Finals – the WTT’s main annual events.

Goa, Ljubljana, Bangkok and Lanzhou will join Doha as the next WTT Star Contender hosts in 2024, with all four cities looking to continue building on their successful first editions held this year.

Fans will meet India’s leading stars – Manika Batra and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran – at the new venue in 2024 as they take on the world’s top players at Peddem Indoor Stadium from 23-28 January.

The breathtaking city of Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, will return to the Tivoli Hall from June 10 to 16, the WTT Star Contender Bangkok will be held in the Land of Smiles from July 2 to 7, while the WTT Star Contender Lanzhou, the only WTT Star Contender to be held in China, returns to the phenomenal Tulip Complex from September 16 to 22.

The world’s top stars will be looking to end the dominance of China, which has won all the WTT Star Contender singles titles this year. In addition, they will be vying for a share of the $250,000 in prize money and 600 ITTF Table Tenten World Ranking points on offer at each tournament.

High level matches and fierce rivalry will also be on display at WTT Contender tournaments around the world, with Taiyuan, Rio de Janeiro, Lima, Lagos, Zagreb, Tunis and Almaty joining Doha to provide the backdrop for players competing for 400 points towards the ITTF Table Tennis World Rankings and their share of the $80,000 in prize money per tournament.

The announcement of the WTT Contender Series tournaments follows the recent release of the WTT Feeder and WTT Youth Series calendars, reinforcing the WTT’s commitment to supporting and developing table tennis at all levels.

Alongside the increase in prize money for WTT Contender tournaments from $75,000 to $80,000, WTT has also confirmed that prize money for WTT Feeder Series tournaments will increase to $22,500 (a 12.5% increase) and for WTT Youth Contender tournaments to $1,000 (a 25% increase).

The organizer of the WTT Main Event, WTT Grand Smashes and WTT Champions will be revealed in the coming weeks, promising even more exciting table tennis action.

WTT Feeder Vila Nova de Gaia 2023 in Portugal

This tournament will offer us world class table tennis, where in the men’s singles, the home team’s Marcos Freitas, seeded number one, will be looking to win the tournament and secure the last spot for the top 16 players in the rankings for the final best-of-the-best tournament. Another home player, the number three seed João Geraldo or Kristian Karlsson of Sweden will try to prevent him from doing so.

This tournament will bring us a lot of interesting matches and top table tennis, not least betting opportunities.
