The UFC headed to Singapore on Saturday and offered a very attractive fight card. Fans were treated to some attractive and quality fights, however the main event was understandably the most anticipated.
It featured Max Holloway and The Korean Zombie. While Holloway is a former champion and if it wasn’t for Alexander Volkanovsky would probably still be one today, the South Korean is a recent title challenger for a change, albeit an unsuccessful one.
Zombie has shown in the past that he can really take a lot, as his nickname suggests. He showed up even with Volkanovski when the fight had to be stopped by the doctor for his own good.
Holloway was the favourite against Chan Sung Jung, however an attractive spectacle was expected with the possibility that The Korean Zombie could possibly shock and cause a sort of Zombie Apocalypse. But it didn’t happen.
The match came down to the third round and the South Korean was not going to be held back. He tried to push as if he didn’t care how dangerous the Hawaiian fighter could be. And he paid the price when Holloway sent him down with a beautiful grenade.
Zombie, by the way, was hinting before the fight that he was thinking about ending his career. After losing to Holloway, he actually did so when he put his gloves in the center of the cage.
In doing so, Holloway not only prevented the Zombie apocalypse, but sent one of the UFC’s Asian icons into retirement with a flourish. But what’s next for him? Understandably, a fourth fight with Volkanovski will be addressed, but it’s questionable whether either fighter will still be in contention for it.
