Real Madrid played Manchester United on their overseas tour
Pre-season preparations are in full swing and in a few weeks, the biggest league competitions in European football will get underway. As part of the overseas tour, Real Madrid faced Manchester United in Houston, USA, and it was a beautiful spectacle.
Both teams unveiled their biggest summer transfer bombshells to date. Erik ten Hag sent on Mason Mount and new signing Andre Onana. Real’s star transfer Jude Bellingham was also on the pitch from the opening minutes.
As expected, it ended up being a great spectacle. Carlo Ancelotti’s new system worked as early as the sixth minute when it was the new Los Blancos acquisition who scored his first goal for his new club.
Bellingham scored his first goal for Real, Joselu rounded off the scoring with a superb scissor kick
Bellingham made a beautiful run in behind the Red Devils defence, which was taking notice of the more Brazilian duo, and beat goalkeeper Onana with a wonderful lob. It has to be added that the assist from stopper Rüdiger only stood up to the highest standards.
Real continued their fine run after the change of sides. After a beautifully played action, new signing Joselu could have increased the lead, but Onana saved on the goal line. After another attack by the White Ballet, the bar helped.
But Real did get a second goal shortly before the end of normal time. The aforementioned Joselu made the most of Lucas Vazquez’s high centre and finished the scoring with a superb scissor kick.
The new system is working for Ancelotti so far, but the club is still waiting for Mbappé
Real recorded their second win on their overseas tour as they followed up their win against AC Milan. Carlo Ancelotti’s selection is still getting used to the new system with two strikers and a diamond in midfield, but the team seems to have adapted quickly to the Italian strategist’s instructions.
The White Ballet have outplayed the Manchester team especially in the midfield, the midfield line has worked admirably for Ancelotti so far and has been given a new dimension again after the arrival of Bellingham.
However, the club is still waiting to see how the situation around star Kylian Mbappé develops. Goal production could be an issue next season after Karim Benzema’s departure and in the event of an injury to the British midfielder or one of the pair of Rodrygo and Vinícius, Ancelotti doesn’t have too many tried and tested options yet.
