Wout Weghorst is quite a well-known striker in the football world. He made his biggest mark at Wolfsburg, where he played for just under four seasons.
He then moved to Burnley, but did not confirm his form there and in the summer he headed on loan to Turkish Besiktas, where he planned to catch on again.
He did quite well, scoring goal after goal in the autumn, which led to him being part of the Dutch national team at the World Cup in Qatar.
Weghorst, however, made quite sporadic appearances. He played a total of 22 minutes during the group stage and didn’t even get a big chance in the quarter-finals.
Weghorst came on in the 78th minute with the score 0:2. However, he reduced the deficit in the 83rd minute and after a rehearsed signal in the 11th minute sent the match into extra time!
The Netherlands did not advance that night and Argentina eventually became champions, however Weghorst returned to the club and played the match on 21 December.
He scored a goal in the Cup and also made it through in the next two of the next three games. This form earned him an engagement he probably never dreamed of.
Manchester United are looking for a striker who will come in the winter and will not cost a lot of money. They will only pay €10 million for him.
His transfer from Burnley is almost complete, as confirmed by Weghorst’s celebration after his goal on Saturday. He stood in front of the fans and gave a symbolic wave saying “Bye, Bye.“
