UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi offered a great tournament
Abu Dhabi witnessed another numbered UFC 280 tournament on Saturday. The gala, which was dominated by two title fights, certainly lived up to the huge expectations. A card packed with stars from the highest MMA league in the world offered the martial arts world some beautiful fights.
In the main event of the tournament, where Makhmud Muradov unfortunately lost his battle, two of the most dangerous men in the lightweight division faced each other. Brazil’s Charles Oliveira attempted to reclaim his lost championship belt due to a rematch at UFC 274.
His opponent, however, was a runaway train in the care of the man most in charge, the undefeated champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Indeed, his charge Islam Makhachev shocked the MMA world that night when he forced his opponent to tap out in the second round and tasted the feeling of being a UFC champion.

Immediately after the fight, however, the Brazilian made no excuses and acknowledged the Dagestani fighter’s qualities. “My opponent was better than me today, I apologize for my performance,” said Oliveira in an in-cage interview with commentator and former champion Daniel Cormier.
“You’re a fighter too and you know what it’s like, sometimes you’re just standing in the cage and it’s not your day,” he responded to his just lost title fight. “But I promise I will come back stronger,” but he is not folding his arms and wants to regain the lightweight title.
“Wounded lions are always the most dangerous animals, when I come back I will hunt again,” warns the division’s top fighter. It is clear that he will have to fight for his title opportunity again if he wants to be active in wrestling.
In fact, Makhachev has arranged a fight right in the cage in Perth, Australia, where he will take on home fighter and P4P ranked number one across all weight classes Alexander Volkanovskiy. UFC 284 will take place on February 11, 2023.
