Worst case scenario for Real Madrid. Benzema is injured, how serious is it?
Real Madrid = Karim Benzema. This has been true since last season. The French marksman is the star, the best player and the driving force of the White Ballet. That’s why he must not get injured, otherwise it would have fatal consequences. But against Celtic, the blackest scenario has just happened.
Real Madrid = Karim Benzema. This has been true since last season. The French marksman is the star, the best player and the driving force of the White Ballet. That’s why he must not get injured, otherwise it would have fatal consequences. But against Celtic, the blackest scenario has just happened.
In Madrid, they even rely on Benzema so much that they have no replacement for him. In the summer, the second striker Luka Jovic left, and only Mariano Diaz is available among the top strikers, but he is absolutely not up to the quality of Real and even Ancelotti does not want to give him a chance.
That’s why president Florentino Pérez decided to go into the season without a substitute striker and put everything on Benzema’s shoulders. You can’t get a quality striker anyway, because if he is healthy, Benzema plays almost everything and stays on the pitch until the last minutes. Finding a good forward who would settle for the minimum minutes is very difficult.
But what if Benzema gets injured? Nobody in the Chamartín district wanted to think about that. But it came in the fifth game of the season. At Celtic in the Champions League opener, Benzema limped off in the 30th minute and terrified all the Real Madrid fans.
Ancelotti reached for his solution to the problem, defending his failure to find a replacement for Benzema. In fact, he is counting on Eden Hazard as a false nine in the absence of the Frenchman.
The Belgian has made a couple of appearances in the white jersey like this, but it has never been the same. But it worked for Ancelotti at Celtic Park. Hazard, first passed to Valverde, who set up the goal for Vinícius. Then he set up a goal for Modric and finally scored the third goal himself.
Good as a short term solution, but the fans are praying for Benzema’s recovery. “We’ll see tomorrow…, ” the Frenchman said when asked about his health, referring to further tests.
“It doesn’t look serious,” Ancelotti reassured the fans. Benzema, with a painful grimace, began limping in the 28th minute, tried to shake off the injury but could not, so he headed straight to the dressing room.
Real now face a tough schedule and a game every three days. So they will need their best player fit and in top form.
