The European part of the World Cup qualification is over. Well, to be more precise, its group phase. How did the last three groups, which finished on Tuesday, end?
The European part of the World Cup qualification is over. Well, to be more precise, its group phase. How did the last three groups, which finished on Tuesday, end?
Group D
Group D was still fighting for the second place guaranteeing the barrage. While Finland lost 0:2 to France at home, Ukraine confirmed its role as the favourite and beat Bosnia and Herzegovina by the same score.
The three points put Taras Kacharaba and co. into the barrier as the unseeded team, while the Finns dropped to third place. France easily dominated the group, with a six-point lead over Ukraine.
Group E
In the Czech group, Wales earned an unexpected 1-1 draw at home to Belgium. The Czech Republic struggled against the Estonians in the simultaneous match, but thanks to goals from Jakub Brabec and Jan Sýkora, all the points stayed at Letná.
Wales secured second place with the draw, but it did not help them to qualify. The Czech national team will go into the barrage as the winner of their group in the last edition of the Nations League. Belgium goes straight to the World Cup.
Group G
The last group played on Tuesday offered a battle for the top two spots. The Netherlands pulled off a 2:0 win against Norway, Turkey managed a 2:1 win in Montenegro and Latvia won 3:1 in Gibraltar.
So nothing has changed in the table, we will see the Dutch in Qatar, the play-offs await the Turks who will be seeded. Erling Haaland has to wait for his first big national tournament.
