The September part of the World Championship qualification is over. The last matches were played on Wednesday evening, when the Germans, Spanish and Greeks picked up important points, while the Swedes and Welsh dropped out.

Group B

Spain took a big step towards advancing from first place, winning 2-0 in Kosovo. It was also helped by the loss of Sweden, who lost to Greece 1: 2. Georgia was the last country to have a bye.

Spain remains at the top of the table, with a four-point cushion over second-placed Sweden, but with two games to play. The Greeks are still in the game, but they are three points behind the barrage.

Group C

In the “C” group, Italy scored five goals against Lithuania (5::0), the reigning European champion. In the battle for second place, Switzerland played Northern Ireland 0:0 and both teams are in contention for qualification.

Group E

In the Czech group there were not many goals, or one single goal. Belgium won 1: 0 in Belarus, Wales did not take advantage of their superiority and only took one point from their match with Estonia. This is a positive for the Czechs.

Belgium is now eight points ahead of the Czech Republic and Wales at the top of the table, while Estonia and Belarus are already out of the picture. The Czech Republic vs. Wales match in October will probably decide everything.

Group I

One of the most exciting groups is the “íèèko” group. Wednesday’s results were a mess, with Albania giving San Marino a five-peat, Hungary winning 2-1 against Andorra and Poland getting a valuable 1-1 draw with England.

Albania came in second place behind the clear-cut top-ranked England, but just a point behind Poland and a further point back are the Hungarians. Andorra and San Marino are both without a chance.

Group J

In the last group, Germany secured the first place by beating Iceland 4:0. Armenia and Liechtenstein and North Macedonia and Runum split the points after draws.

The second place is still held by the pleasant surprise of Armenia, but only one point behind Romania and another point back is Macedonia. The Germans are already virtually assured of direct promotion.
