The European part of the World Cup qualification is almost halfway through, how are the groups doing so far? Armenia, Sweden, Turkey and Serbia have interesting chances to qualify.
Group A is led by Portugal, who have three points more than second-placed Serbia, thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo’s last goal. However, the Serbians have a game in hand against Luxembourg, who are still thinking about second place with six points. The Irish are disappointing, with no points yet.
The “B” team is led by an unexpected outsider. The Swedes are in the lead after their win over the Spaniards, and if they manage to win their match, they will have a five-point cushion over their biggest rival. The other three nations are essentially out of the game.
It is the recent European champion who is the favourite. After four rounds, Italy is first with ten points, while second-placed Switzerland has six points and two games to play. Northern Ireland (with four points after three rounds) has also kept itself in the fight for the barrage with a win over Lithuania.
Group D has been mostly draws so far, with all games tied except France’s two wins. The 2018 world champions are thus within reach of qualification with eight points, but Finland, Bosnia and Herzegovina and, in theory, Kazakhstan also have a chance alongside second-placed Ukraine.
As expected, Belgium dominates the Czech group with ten points after four matches. The Czechs have seven points, with Wales in third with two games to play. Three teams have a chance to qualify directly.
The Danes are also proving that their excellent performance at the Euros was no accident in the qualifiers. They are 100 percent and boast a 16:0 record. Israel (7 points), Austria (7), Scotland (5) will battle it out for second place.
Perhaps the most exciting group will be Group G. It is led by Turkey with eight points, with the Netherlands, Norway and, surprisingly, Montenegro one point behind. The Turks never give up, the Norwegians have a strong generation, this group can really entertain.
In the Slovak group, everything is also open. The Russians and Croats are on seven points, Slovakia has one less. The unpredictable Slovenia can still shuffle the cards, but so far they have only collected four points.
England is clearly dominating the “íčku”, but three vultures will fight for the second place. Hungary and Poland are tied on seven points, with Albania two wins behind.
Armenia lead the last group against all odds, with the favoured Germany just a point behind. North Macedonia (7) and Romania (6) are still holding out hopes of qualification after their win over Iceland.
