World Cup 2022 for vaccinated only! Qatar has published strict rules
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the European Championships were not held last year and were postponed until this summer. In a year and a half, however, we will see another major championship, with the World Championships in Qatar. Not everyone will be able to get to that, though.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the European Championships were not held last year and were postponed until this summer. In a year and a half, however, we will see another major championship, with the World Championships in Qatar. Not everyone will be able to get to that, though.
Very unusually, the 2022 World Championships will take place in winter instead of the usual June/July. This is mainly because of the high temperatures in Qatar, whose hosting still raises big question marks.
At the current Euro, some countries are allowing varying numbers of capacity, with Hungary even playing in front of a full stadium of 60,000.
Fans must have either a vaccination certificate, a negative test for Covid-19 or an infection-free certificate to enter.
But in Qatar, such rules apparently won’t apply. Sky Sport reported that Qatar will only allow fully vaccinated fans into its stadiums during the World Cup.
There has been much protest in recent months about Qatar hosting the championships. In fact, several workers have already died while building luxury stadiums, working in appalling conditions.
The first to speak up was the Norwegian national team. Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard brought their team onto the pitch in the qualifying for this championship wearing a T-shirt with the slogan “Human Rights. On and off the field.” This act was subsequently supported by the national teams of Germany and the Netherlands.
