Group C
Italy refused to secure qualification for the tournament, only drawing 1-1 at home against Switzerland. At a crucial moment, Jorginho failed to score from a penalty kick. In the other match, the Northern Irish beat Lithuania 1-0.
Italy therefore have the same number of points as Switzerland before the last round and the direct qualifier will probably be decided by the score. The Italians are better by two goals, on the other hand they go to the field of the unpleasant Northern Ireland. The Swiss will face the Bulgarians.
Group F
The Danes also won their ninth qualifying match, but they drew with the Faroe Islands for the first time in the whole cycle. The Austrians downed Israel 4-2 at home and the Scots beat the Moldovans 2-0.
Denmark have been assured of direct qualification for over a month, with Scotland securing second place thanks to the loss of Israel. Moreover, everything points to the fact that they will go into the play-offs as the seeded team. Austria, on the other hand, was not helped by a valuable win.
Group I
The English unexpectedly handled an otherwise in form Albania at home (5:0), and the Hungarians also scored four goals to worsen San Marino’s already bad score. Poland also did not hesitate in Andorra (4::1).
In Group I, too, the fight is over. England go straight to the tournament in Qatar, the Poles secured second place thanks to the loss of Albania. Poland is also very likely to be seeded, especially if they get at least a point against Hungary in the last round.
