While for the first five rounds it looked like Wolves’ fight for salvation, they are currently in eighth place and four points behind the Top 4 with a game to spare. Mainly thanks to a good January, during which they won all three games.
Arsenal too have certainly picked up since the start of the season, but seem to have run out of breath in the new year. A draw and a loss in the last two rounds have dropped them to sixth place, two points behind fourth-placed Manchester United. The Gunners, however, have a game in hand.
Joao Moutinho shone in the home side’s midfield in January, managing to notch two goals and an assist. His teammate and compatriot Ruben Neves and stoppers Conor Coady and Max Kilman also put in reliable performances.
Arsenal have the youngest squad in the league, twenty-year-old Bukayo Saka has already opened the net six times and assisted four times this season, twenty-one-year-old Emile Smith-Rowe has scored eight times and assisted two goals.
Wolverhampton’s games have seen the fewest goals fall in the whole league, Wolves have only scored nineteen goals (3rd worst in the league), on the other hand they have only conceded sixteen (2nd best in the league).
For Arsenal, the fluctuating form can be understood given the young squad, but it is still shameful that the Gunners have not scored in their last four games through all competitions.
Considering the fact that Arsenal have kicked more corners than their opponents in five of their last six games, I think that will be the case this time as well.
