Wolverhampton take on Leeds in Friday’s 30th round Premier League preview game. Both teams have a big incentive to win, the home team are still in the race for the European Cups, while the visitors are just four points above the relegation zone.
Wolverhampton managed to win two games last week and stay in the cups after 4: 0 and 1: 0 wins. From seventh place, they are only four points behind fifth-placed Manchester United, which only underlines the excellent work of the coaching staff.
Although Leeds won the last round 2-1 against Norwich with a fourth minute goal, they remain close to the relegation zone. They are currently four points clear of Watford in 18th.
Wolverhampton rely on Ruben Neves in midfield, the Portuguese midfielder has already scored four goals and assisted twice. Long-time mainstay Raul Jimenez has been on nine goals, scoring six and assisting on three.
The away side’s results are dependent on Raphinha’s performances, with the Brazilian magician netting nine times and assisting three times. Nineteen-year-old Joe Gelhardt has also been impressive, scoring two goals and assisting on three.
With nine rounds to go, Wolverhampton hold the fourth best defensive record in the league, with only Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool getting fewer goals than Wolves (19).
Leeds are the complete opposite, The Whites have the league’s worst defence, conceding sixty-five times. The start of 2022 in particular is terrible from a defensive perspective for Leeds.
Given the solid home defence and the two wins from the last two rounds, I think Wolves will win.
