Without Mbappé, but with Hazard? The French Ligue 1 will be called McDonald’s from the new season! The fans are revolting
The top French football league will lose its biggest star in Kylian Mbappé after the new season. It is looking for new revenue, which should come from a partnership with the McDonald’s chain. The fast food company will be standing in the name of the league, how much did they have to pay for this?

The collaboration with Uber Eats is over! France’s top football competition will have a brand new name from next season. This is due to a sponsorship agreement with a new partner. It will add a few million more to the competition’s coffers.
Ligue 1 has taken two hard knocks in the last year. First, two big names in the form of star South Americans Lionel Messi and Neymar left in one transfer window.
Then the league’s biggest star, national team cannonballer Kylian Mbappé, will leave France after the current season. This, of course, will have an impact on the already weakened fan interest in the competition, which is clearly languishing in Europe’s top five leagues.
McDonald’s becomes the official sponsor of Ligue 1
And this is where the league’s new partner comes in. Since the 2020/2021 season, it has been Uber, which, in addition to courier services, has been involved in food delivery since 2014. According to the French TV channel RMC Sport, it paid around 15 million euros annually.
“They didn’t want to continue paying at that price and an offer with a revised amount (from McDonald’s) was put in the hands of Vincent Labrune (the league’s president),” said RMC editor Daniel Riolo.
He then also revealed the details of the three-year contract, which is expected to be in the region of 20 million euros per year. This is of course a more attractive amount in the eyes of the competition officials.
From next season, the French top football competition will be officially called Ligue 1 McDonald’s. The move immediately drew huge criticism from local fans, who unleashed an avalanche of discontent on social media.
But as it happens, with new news comes a lot of funny comments. And one related to former league star Eden Hazard will suffice for all of them. At just 32 years old, he recently retired from a career that saw him become known not only for his great performances but also for his love of food.
