Winning the Super Cup has awakened Real Madrid’s hunger for trophies. We’re going for all the titles, say the coaches and management
Real Madrid are scared again. It is no longer Cristiano Ronaldo that scares the opposition defenders, but the ever breathtaking Benzema, Modric, Kroos and the youngsters Vinícius, Rodrygo and Valverde. Los Blancos, after winning the first trophy, announce an attack on the remaining ones.
After the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid, the club fell into a crisis it was not used to. Twice in a row they have dropped out in the Champions League eighth round, and in their first season without the Portuguese, Real finished third in the league.
After the return of Zinedine Zidane, it did win the league, but it was more due to great defensive work, no frantic offensive. Last season with the French coach, Real finished second in the league, in the semi-finals of the Champions League and the Spanish Super Cup, and in the first round of the Copa del Rey, thus not reaching any trophy.
But since the summer arrival of new coach Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid is back to its old ways. Historically, it holds the throne of the most successful club in the world and the Merengues are gradually returning to the top.
And yet Ancelotti has not made any big signings in the offensive, with only David Alaba and Eduardo Camavinga arriving at the Santiago Bernabéu. Moreover, he had to cope with the departure of long-time stopper duo Ramos – Varane. Fans’ fears were therefore justified, but they are long gone.
The Italian strategist has turned the club into an incredible machine that runs without a hitch. The offensive duo of Benzema – Vinícius shines, the midfield continues to be dominated by the immortal trio of Casemiro – Kroos – Modric. The Alaba – Militao duo have been extremely fast at full-back, while Courtois is charming in goal. Ancelotti has plenty of room to go, with Rodrygo, Valverde, Camavinga, Lucas and Nacho helping the team from the bench.
After winning the Spanish Super Cup, the euphoria of the club from Madrid is overwhelming.
“I am very happy to be here, to win again with Real Madrid. It’s a pride to coach this club. We are going to fight for more titles,” Ancelotti exhorted his charges after the final.
Just the fact that these words come from someone who is definitely not flying with his head in the clouds is a great signal for the fans of the White Ballet. Ancelotti almost always keeps his head down and doesn’t let his emotions run wild. If he said it, he really believes it. He has the perfect foundation for it.
“First of all, I have a great team at my disposal. Secondly, the environment in the team and in the club in general is perfect. We have the strength to fight for all competitions. This is a team I enjoy watching. We don’t have just one way of playing, we have several and that’s the strength of this team,” Ancelotti added.
Club president Florentino Pérez thinks the same way. “We are at the beginning of a new era,” Pérez is confident.
The title drought that has lasted a year and a half has left Madrid very hungry. For the players, the management and the fans. That’s why they are already talking about other trophies in advance, in the Spanish capital they simply believe they have what it takes.
