Win the cup? Not interested. After the final, Casemiro teased Fernandes for a pass
Virtually no one doubts anymore why Manchester United paid 70 million euros for Casemiro. The Brazilian midfielder has taken United up several levels, especially with his mentality and constant hunger for success. He showed that after the Carabao Cup final.
Virtually no one doubts anymore why Manchester United paid 70 million euros for Casemiro. The Brazilian midfielder has taken United up several levels, especially with his mentality and constant hunger for success. He showed that after the Carabao Cup final.
On Sunday, Manchester United celebrated winning their first trophy since 2017. At Wembley they beat Newcastle 2: 0 after goals from Casemiro and Marcus Rashford, whose goal was eventually awarded as an own goal to Sven Botman.
The Red Devils have waited six years for a trophy, the last time José Mourinho was on the bench. For United, it marks the end of a cruel and black era.
But somehow Casemiro isn’t moving. To be sure, the Brazilian has won the Champions League, the club’s most prestigious and valuable trophy, five times, but the Carabao Cup is on another level altogether.
For Manchester United, however, this is a big deal, the wait for the trophy has been long indeed. But Casemiro always wants more. After the final, with all the players celebrating with flags on their backs and smiling faces enjoying winning the trophy, the Sao Paulo native remembered something.
Towards the end of the game, Bruno Fernandes ran at goalkeeper Karius alone and missed. The Portuguese midfielder could have found Casemiro with a simple pass, but decided to take the situation on himself.
So Casemiro, stone-faced, went to Fernandes, who was having a good-natured chat with McTominay. He pointed to where he wanted to receive the pass from and read him the whole situation.
Actually, no wonder, Casemiro is a born winner. The Brazilian has won the ninth final he’s entered. He has helped United regain the winning mentality that the club had been sorely lacking.
