The third Grand Slam of the season is fast approaching. In less than 2 weeks, the legendary Wimbledon will kick off. Today, the organizers announced the list of players who can compete in the tournament thanks to wild cards. It’s full of interesting names, including several local hopefuls. Who are they?

Tournament organizers give out wild cards at every major event. They can give them to great players who can’t compete because of a poor ranking, whatever the reason for their fall (injury, drop in performance).

Or they give them to promising domestic players who wouldn’t get a chance at all in similar tournaments. The wild card for Wimbledon 2021 has received some interesting names. The biggest draw will be the return of domestic champion Andy Murray.

The Brit has been plagued by a large number of injuries in recent years and has dropped down to 124th in the rankings. He returns again after a break of several months. He will test his performance at this week’s tournament in London.

Veteran Venus Williams will also get her chance. The American is still on the WTA circuit at the age of 40. Of course, her performance is not the same as in the past, but she still enjoys tennis and is not thinking about the end of her career.

This tennis legend has won a total of 5 titles at Wimbledon and is still very popular here. There is no doubt that her match will once again attract a large crowd of fans.

The talented Spaniard Alcaraz has also received a wild card. Already at the age of 18, this player is astonishing the tennis world. Last time he managed to advance to the third round of the French Open. He has great potential and is the future of Spanish tennis. It’s no coincidence that he is described as a perfect copy of Rafael Nadal.

Other cards have already been dealt exclusively to home players. Let’s see if they grab their chance and how they fare at the home Grand Slam.
