Wimbledon plans hefty fines for breaches under Covid-19 pandemic
The most traditional tennis holiday is coming up. And with it comes a warning about compliance with the Covid-19 pandemic.
The most traditional tennis holiday is coming up. And with it comes a warning about following the rules of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Not only a fine of £14,000 (nearly 418,000 Czech crowns), but also exclusion from the tournament. This is what those tennis players who leave the venue face. The organisers are apparently afraid of the possible spread of the coronavirus.
Outside of matches, tennis players will have to be in a “protective bubble” around the hotel, namely the All England Club in central London. Their travel will therefore only be between the courts and the hotel.
Players can forget about any house rentals, which they have been used to in previous years. The only Grand Slam played on grass will not give the participants room for any other programme.
This year the tournament is scheduled to take place between June 28 and July 11. And, as in the past, the winner will come away with a hefty sum of money. In 2019, the champion has been awarded £2,350,000, which is roughly 70 million crowns.
In the summer of the aforementioned 2019, the winner took home 4.4% more than in 2018. This year, there will probably be a slight drop, but it shouldn’t be anything dramatic.
