Will we see the return of Serena Williams? The chances are very high, she says

This September was marked by the farewell of two icons of world tennis. While Roger Federer ended his successful career at the Laver Cup, Serena Williams played her last match at the US Open. Or did she? The holder of 23 Grand Slam triumphs hinted that she might return to professional sports.
The former world number one from the USA, who is 41 years old, played her final match at Flushing Meadows against Ajla Tomljanovic, to whom she lost 5: 7, 7: 6 and 1: 6. Before the tournament, Williams announced her retirement from tennis through Vogue magazine.
However, it looks like the emotional farewell may not have been final. In her own words, one of the best players in history is still not done with her career.
“The chances (of a comeback) are very high. You can come to my house, I have a court there,” Sky Sports website quoted the mother of five-year-old Alexis, Olympia Ohanian, as saying at a press conference in San Francisco, where Williams was presenting her investment company.
She also described her feelings after her previously announced retirement from the sport. “I still haven’t really thought about it. But the next day I woke up, went on the court and realised that for the first time I wasn’t going to have a tournament, which was weird,” said the 2012 Olympic singles champion.
A year younger sister of Venus Williams, who has not announced the end of her career yet, she is still not completely determined to leave professional sport. Serena also described her feelings after dropping out of the 2022 US Open in other words.
“It was like the first day of the rest of my life and I’m enjoying it, but I’m still trying to find a balance,” she said. So the question remains whether we will ever see the five-time Masters champion on the court again.
By the way, she didn’t want to use the word retirement in her aforementioned statement to Vogue in August. Rather, she was talking about a certain development. “Maybe the best word to describe what I’m doing is evolution,” Serena Williams told the well-known fashion periodical at the time.
