One trilogy is complete for Conor McGregor, but one remains. It didn’t work out with Dustin Poirier, as he lost his last two fights with him. He can make up for it with Nate Diaz.
Although Diaz is still asking the UFC for a release so he can fight elsewhere. Meanwhile, he’s only one fight away from being free, which he’s also publicly asked for many times. But he still hasn’t gotten it.
It was with the younger of the legendary brothers that the star Irishman has already fought twice in 2016. In the first fight, he surprisingly lost when Diaz knocked him down in the second round on a rear-naked choke. McGregor won the rematch on points.
The two fighters have regularly butted heads in interviews and directly on social media, where they have settled their outstanding scores remotely. Now Diaz has again spoken out about making a third fight happen.
Before that, however, he called himself, against all odds, the best fighter to ever be in the UFC. In addition, he says the UFC is holding him back as he doesn’t fight nearly as often as he used to. Thus, he reminisced about the days when he fought easily three to five times a year.
And what is his message to McGregor? “Now get back to life as soon as you can and I’ll come back later because I’ve got a bunch of stuff to do right now,” MMA Fighting quotes him as saying.
It’s worth noting that the UFC might want to see the conclusion of this trilogy as well. After all, the two tournaments in which McGregor and Diaz fought are among the best-selling UFC events in history.
