Coming June 29, the UFC and the combat sports world will see a big comeback. Conor McGregor will reappear in the cage after three long years. After all the speculation, health woes, he’ll make his debut at the UFC 303 gala.
His opponent will be Michael Chandler, one of the most attractive fighters in the organization. Interestingly, the duel will take place at welterweight. Fans are curious to see in what form The Notorious will return.
Originally, there was talk that the star Irishman might appear at the UFC 300 event. However, as we already know, that didn’t happen. Media and pundits alike speculated that the former two-time UFC champion might never return to the cage, or that he might fight someone else.
There were also mentions of completing a trilogy with Nate Diaz, but he has yet to fight Jorge Masvidal in boxing. Plus, Diaz doesn’t have a contract with the UFC, so that possibility didn’t seem very realistic. One day, however, it may happen.
Will Conor McGregor see the completion of another trilogy?
Conor McGregor has already completed one trilogy. However, he has a negative record with Dustin Poirier, losing two fights, winning only the first one years ago. He could see the completion of a second trilogy in the future, as that trilogy is now 1-1.
The first fight was dominated by Nate Diaz, who sensationally defeated the Irishman. In the rematch, however, The Notorious was able to prevail. Incidentally, in the tournament with the second highest number of PPV sales in the history of the organization. Only the tournament where Conor fought Khabib Nurmagomedov was better.
“I 100% guarantee I will fight McGregor again. Likewise, I 100% guarantee I’ll probably fight Jake Paul, Jorge Masvidal and Leon Edwards again. That’s my list,” the American expressed to MMA Junkie.
Leon Edwards, by the way, is now welterweight champion. Diaz did lose to him, however, more because of his typical recklessness. He could’ve beaten Edwards if he’d put him under pressure after a good shot. He didn’t.
“Edwards is the coolest thing in the UFC right now. I think he’s doing great. He’s doing awesome, he’s getting better all the time, he’s got a good attitude. I think he’s the best in the whole organization right now,” Diaz said.
