Will we see a new team in Formula 1? The boss of the queen of motorsport has made it very clear

It’s becoming quite a saga at the moment. In addition to Porsche and Audi, Michael Andretti himself is also considering joining Formula 1 and would like to have his own team in the queen of motorsport. But F1 boss Stefano Domenicali doesn’t seem to allow any such thing…

A new team in Formula One. That’s an exciting idea for many fans, but one that hasn’t yet met its realistic foundations. Andretti is currently looking at all the different ways to enter F1.

One option, of course, is to set up his own team, but there is no room for that, according to Domenicali, the Formula 1 boss. Alternative number two then is to buy out one of the teams, but there is currently no team in F1 whose owner would consider selling.

Although Andretti has previously been linked to Aston Martin or Sauber (Alfa Romeo), for example. However, it seems that there are no more negotiations in this field, at least in the near future.

Domenicali has made it quite clear in recent times that he is happy with the current state of the grid, and although he and Andretti have discussed various options, nothing seems realistic at the moment.

Domenicali’s statement

“I don’t think it’s currently a problem of quantity in F1 when we can still see the value of Formula 1 increasing. But it’s a question of understanding everyone else as well. Even if someone has a stronger voice and a stronger name, and Andretti has been quite vocal about joining F1, there are others who have done the same, just in a different way,” Domenicali revealed in an interview with Motorsport.

“As I have always said, I don’t believe it is a problem to have more teams in Formula 1 to add more value to the World Championship. But there is a protocol that we have to follow. And everybody follows it, Andretti not excluded. So that’s the situation today and I don’t foresee any change. But I don’t want to tell you yes or no,” he added.

“We can all have different opinions, but in the end it’s about following protocol. And there will always be someone who has to make the final decision. As I said, I don’t see a weakness in the number of teams in Formula One today, that’s my opinion,” Domenicali believes.

Domenicali has spoken with both Michael and Mario Andretti very often, as he has known Mario in particular for a very long time. According to him, they both tried to present their ideas and searched for the best and right way to enter F1.

However, even in this case Domenicali referred to one thing – the protocol that everyone must follow without exception.

Formula 1 does not need more teams at the moment

So, based on his other statements, it is clear that the Formula 1 boss has sent one message to everyone – we simply don’t need a new team in Formula 1.

“Today we are talking about new regulations (for 2026 and beyond). And all the manufacturers involved say that time is running out very quickly. You need four years to produce and develop another (and completely new) power unit.

And we need to be cautious because in Formula 1 we really need to have a team or manufacturer that is really strong has full commitment for an incredibly long term future (collaboration). This is part of the art of F1 and I honestly don’t see the need for this increase in the number of teams in a way that is beneficial to F1,” he concluded.
