At the start of 2022, Mason Greenwood got himself into big trouble. His girlfriend accused him of domestic violence. She even took to social media to present the alleged evidence, and even filed a lawsuit against him. Manchester United distanced themselves from him at that point.

The English talent has been without professional football for a long time. He couldn’t even train. His career seemed to be over. But in early 2023, he was acquitted, his prosecution was dropped. The question of what to do next became an issue.

For a while, it looked like he might stay at Old Trafford, but the women’s team was against it, the fans rebelled. Moreover, the club was worried about its public reputation. It decided not to prevent the footballer from restarting his career.

Given his potential, there was no small interest in him. Those who were associated with him, however, faced public criticism. Eventually, Mason Greenwood signed for Spanish Getafe, where he became an idol. The club is behind him, and so are the fans.

Will Mason Greenwood head to Barcelona?

In recent weeks, there have been rumours about the famous Barcelona being interested in the English talent. However, at Getafe, Mason Greenwood is only on loan. His contract is still with Manchester United, until 2026.

The Englishman will thus return to Old Trafford in the summer. But not for long. Getafe wanted to get him for next season, according to the words of the club boss, the player himself would like to stay, but Manchester United prefers a permanent transfer. Apparently, the Red Devils management wants to sell the player for 40 million euros.

This is a sum that Getafe cannot afford. And so Barcelona want to get involved. The latter is in financial difficulties, but wants to solve it by compensating the player. At least that’s what Goal reports.

The Catalans would solve two birds with one stone. First of all, they would get a promising, experienced and already experienced footballer from the Spanish top league, while they could get rid of one “troublemaker”.

That troublemaker would be Vitor Roque, who only arrived in Barcelona in January. The agent of the 19-year-old Brazilian has complained about the way the player is being treated, saying that Xavi is not addressing the situation or communicating with him. The Blaugranas, by the way, acquired him for 40 million euros.

If Xavi wants to send Roque on loan, the player and his agent will reportedly push for a permanent transfer. Manchester United could have a great prospect in him for the future. However, it is questionable whether a player swap will be enough for the Old Trafford outfit. After all, the English club would rather get the money for Mason Greenwood to leave.
