Will they get a chance at the most important moment? Youngsters from the semi-finalists who haven’t played much at the Euros

It is a common practice that even the world’s biggest national teams take talented players to big international tournaments, but they don’t have much experience. This year was no different. Some of these players even made it into the starting lineup, but others have only picked up a few minutes and it is questionable whether they will even be on the field again.

It is a common practice that even the world’s biggest national teams take talented players to big international tournaments, but they don’t have much experience. This year was no different. Some of these players even made it into the starting lineup, but others have only picked up a few minutes and it is questionable whether they will even be on the field again.

  • The most talked about name among the fans is Cole Palmer
  • The Premier League’s best players haven’t got much space yet
  • Most players have played for Spain

Cole Palmer, who was one of the best players in the English league, probably comes to most people’s minds at first. However, he didn’t get the Albion coach’s trust at first. However, during the last two games he came on as a first substitute and even though both games went to extra time, he played over 90 minutes.

Significantly worse off are his teammates Ollie Watkins and Anthony Gordon. Both have also been among the Premier League’s leading figures, much like Palmer. But the former only logged 22 minutes with Denmark when he was replaced by Harry Kane. Striker Strak then played just 2 minutes against Slovenia.

Southgate also took 20-year-old Adam Wharton to the EURO, but as expected, the Crystal Palace midfielder was not trusted and hasn’t featured in any games so far.

The trio of Ian Maatsen, Brian Brobbey and Matthijs De Ligt on the Dutch side are also in the same situation. The biggest surprise is clearly the last one. After a not very successful season at Bayern, he remains only the fourth Dutch stopper and has not played in the tournament so far.

It was only in the quarter-final against Turkey that the young striker Joshua Zirkzee came on. He played only 4 minutes, but considering that he was missing from the original nomination, it was certainly a promising moment for him.

Most players played for the Spanish national team at this year’s Euros. Of the youngsters, only Fermin Lopez and Álex Baena got less minutes. Even with the overload in the midfield, each of them only got less than 30 minutes. However, due to the injury to Pedri, this could still change.

For their opponents from France, Ibrahima Konaté or Warren Zaire-Emery remained on the bench in all games. Although the latter is shining at PSG at the age of 18, Didier Deschamps prefers other midfielders in the national team’s base.

So the question is whether some of these players will still get a chance, even with the number of yellow cards of all players nullified before the semi-final.
