Will there be a rematch? Adesanya will probably get a chance to regain his title right away, according to the UFC boss
The previously unseen is once again a reality. Israel Adesanya is once again without a title. After being stripped of it last year by Alex Pereira and having to fight hard to win it back, he was beaten by Sean Strickland in Sydney. What’s next for the formerly dominant champion?

16 fights in the UFC, 11 title fights and only 3 losses. Israel Adesanya is one of the most dominant champions in the history of the organization, but his aura of invincibility is gone.
That he was beaten by Jan Blachowicz in a weight class with a weight advantage did nothing to reflect on the champion and his reputation. But losing to Alex Pereira seemed to change everything completely, even though he was victorious in the rematch and took the title back.
In Sydney, in his first defence after regaining the title, he was unexpectedly robbed of the belt by Sean Strickland, a man with a crazy life story who was seen as a giant underdog.
The American allowed Adesanya absolutely nothing in the fight. He didn’t let him do anything, on the contrary, he knocked him down, beating him in the cage, but also in the head. The Last Stylebender has a lot to think about, but he took the loss like a true champion and acknowledged that the better fighter won.
But what’s next for him? According to some fans, he shouldn’t get an immediate rematch as the fight wasn’t even close. However, UFC boss Dana White outlined at the press conference that he would like a rematch.
According to White, Adesanya wasn’t himself: ‘He was too slow. Only he knows what’s going on. I’m curious to see what he has to say. There are a million things that can go wrong. Sometimes you just wake up and it’s not the same. He couldn’t get into it in the fight, even in the fifth round when everybody knew he had to stop the fight to win, he didn’t start pushing.”
White also praised Strickland’s performance, making him all the more curious about the rematch. He believes Adesanya’s performance may have been affected by the effort he put into his rematch with Pereira earlier in the year. Moreover, he said it could have been easy to overlook Strickland then.
