When Newcastle were recently taken over by new wealthy owners, there was great joy among Magpies fans. But in order for the Saudi Arabian investment fund to turn the iconic club into one of the strongest sides in England, it needs to stay in the Premier League.

The Saudi Arabian investment fund is managed by the country’s Crown Prince and ruler Prince Muhammad bin Salman, who at 36 is one of the most powerful and wealthy men in the world. His financial resources are almost unlimited, so it is to be expected that there will be a lot of reinforcements coming to Newcastle.

He will lure them with money, but the main aspect is the Premier League, no star player will accept an offer from the Championship. For now, however, things are looking bleak for the Magpies.

In Tuesday’s Round 14 preview, last-place Newcastle had the perfect opportunity to finally bounce back from the bottom. At home, they challenged second to last Norwich, but the game was complicated by stopper Clark. He got sent off in the ninth minute, but even that didn’t stop the Magpies.

Wilson scored from the penalty spot in the 61st minute, only for Pukki to equalise in the 79th minute to make it 1-1. Newcastle have not yet tasted victory in the Premier League this season, after seven draws and seven defeats they are in last place in the table with seven points.

Penultimate Burnley have 9 points but two games to go. Eighteenth-placed Norwich have picked up 10 points, and Watford hold the last non-relegation spot with 13 points and one game to spare against Newcastle.

There must be a big bang at St James’ Park in the winter transfer window or the new owners will be luring players to the Championship.

And who could come in as early as January? There is a lot of talk about Jesse Lingard, whose contract at Manchester United expires in the summer and a new one will not be signed. Moreover, the 28-year-old midfielder hardly plays, Newcastle could be an interesting destination for him.

Another name being speculated is Niklas Süle. The Bayern stopper is also only under contract in Germany until June, so the German colossus could sell him in the winter to get at least some money for him. The worst defence in the league would definitely need strengthening, so the power defender Süle could be a great acquisition.

Newcastle could also look to swoop for Donny van de Beek. The Dutch midfielder has only sat on the bench at Manchester United under Solskjaer and it was almost clear that he would leave in the winter, either on loan or on a transfer. However, with the arrival of a new coach, the situation might have changed a bit.
