Manchester United are struggling this season and the club is also dealing with a difficult situation on several fronts. Apart from the fact that the management has to deal with what is happening on the pitch, there is also a lot of talk about selling the Red Devils. There is now speculation that the saviour, who is an AC Milan legend, could be heading to Old Trafford.
From Italian devils to English devils? According to the British newspaper The Sun, that may be a reality too. The information was also picked up by Sky Sports, so it may not be a mere search for a sensation. However, several conditions must be met.
What is it all about? A troubled Manchester United is looking for a suitable addition to its head coach. Thus, there is an interesting possibility in play as the Red Devils are reportedly interested in engaging Paolo Maldini, the AC Milan legend.
Maldini has made his mark as a player among the unforgettable icons at the Italian big club. However, he also did a great job as a member of the management team, when he was technical director and worked very closely with coach Stefano Pioli and together they won the title and returned the club to the Champions League after a long time.
Since the summer, however, the former fantastic defender has been out of work. Rossonerri fans were extremely critical of his end at the club and it was no wonder. Reportedly, even several AC Milan stars were considering leaving.
Is Maldini being recruited by Manchester United?
For now, it’s mere speculation. For Paolo Maldini to actually head to Old Trafford, Sir James Ratcliffe must first complete the purchase of a stake in the club. He is expected to buy a 25% stake.
It is Ratcliffe who wants Maldini to be the new Red Devils. It is not yet clear what his position would be. But Manchester United could definitely rely on his qualities.
There has been interest in the Italian legend since he has been out of work. So far, he has been linked mainly with various stints in Saudi Arabia. Al-Ittihad, where Karim Benzema plays, has been the most interested.
As far as Ratcliffe is concerned then, his purchase of a 25% stake is only the first step towards a gradual overall takeover of the Red Devils.
