West Ham United’s management is reportedly already working on a new signing. That would be Weston McKennie, who would replace Declan Rice.
The latter recently turned down a new contract. The club will certainly try to renew the negotiations for a new contract, but according to the current information, it seems that the Hammers are ready to sell the England international.
According to the Football Insider website, McKennie is the main item on the list of reinforcements. However, based on the available data, it won’t be anything cheap – it’s supposed to be a ‘big money deal’, or a transfer for big money.
It is also not a speculation, the teams have already held some negotiations, after which McKennie is ready to leave Turin.
The USA international is a versatile player, which David Moyes, the Hammers’ coach, will surely welcome. Yes, he mostly plays in the centre of midfield, but at his former club (Schalke 04 – ed.) he also played as a stopper.
McKennie started his professional football career in the academy of Dallas, from where he moved to Gelsenkirchen in August 2016. He spent less than a year in the junior team there, but was subsequently recruited to the A-team.
He spent three more years there, after which he was rewarded for his performance. His services were hired by Italian giants Juventus Turin in September 2020. He spent the whole of last season in the north-west of Italy and was often one of the mainstays of the starting line-up. His record stands at 46 games, six goals and three assists.
On the first of July 2021, Juventus secured him by turning his guest appearance into a permanent transfer. The amount of this transfer was 20.5 million euros and is similar to his current market value.
