Will Soucek and Coufal have a new coach? Lopetegui under fire from critics, former Dortmund coach in the running
West Ham are not doing too well in the new competition year. The poor form was supposed to be solved by the arrival of a new coach after the departure of David Moyes, but Julen Lopetegui is currently under fire from critics. Will Tomáš Souček and Vladimír Coufal get another new manager? Edin Terzic is reportedly on the Hammers’ radar.

- West Ham are not having a good start to the new competitive season
- Julen Lopetegui has come under fire for his team’s performance
- Edin Terzic is reportedly on the Hammers’ radar as a potential replacement
When coach David Moyes left the London club, fans in particular felt one thing. Something like “thanks for everything, but it’s time for a change.” And so it was, Moyes spent a total of 230 games on the Hammers bench, but after the end of last season he packed up and left the London Stadium.
The club’s management then officially appointed and introduced a new coach at the beginning of July this year. The Spanish strategist, formerly the manager of Sevilla, Porto or the Spanish youth national teams, Julen Lopetegui, became the new manager.
With him, the Hammers started the new season with high hopes, only to lose at home to Aston Villa (1: 2). However, West Ham then went on to win at Crystal Palace (2: 0) and were also successful in the EFL Cup, beating Bournemouth (1: 0).
Actually, a fine start, it sounded from the lips of the London fans at the time. However, the following run of five unsuccessful games, far from being just a result, made them wrong. A loss to Manchester City (1:3), a draw at Fulham (1:1), a clear home defeat to Chelsea (0:3) or a blast at Liverpool in the EFL Cup (1:5).
The Hammers capped this streak with a draw at Brentford (1:1) at the end of September. After that “fine start” came the sobering up, although West Ham fans were not drunk with success either. In the seventh round of the Premier League, the Spanish coach’s charges beat Ipswich 4-1, the English newcomers to the competition.
West Ham repeated the same result in the last Premier League match at Tottenham, only this time in reverse. Moreover, with a red card. The balance sheet of the club from the London Stadium speaks as follows. Eight points earned in eight games, a score of 11:15, two wins, two draws, four losses.
Lopetegui under fire from critics, Terzic an alternative
For a team that, after all, would like to play European Cups again, these are simply unsatisfactory results. And it is no wonder that coach Lopetegui is under fire from West Ham supporters. But as previously reported by the UK’s The Guardian, the 80-year-old coach is looking to introduce new mechanisms at the club, including a new style of play.
As a result, the club reportedly does not want to make rash decisions. On the other hand, Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg came forward on Tuesday evening with the information that West Ham are looking at possible alternatives. One of them is Edin Terzic, who is currently out of contract.
He was an assistant coach at West Ham from 2015 to 2017. He subsequently spent several years at Dortmund, where he built a decent reputation thanks to winning the German Cup and fighting for the championship title, which Borussia eventually lost.
According to recent reports, Terzic is keen on a deal in London. However, it should be added that AC Milan have also opened talks with the currently available coach. In case of unsatisfactory results, the Italian giant’s management will part ways with Paulo Fonseca and welcome the Croatian-German coach instead.
