Sergio Ramos, the legendary Spanish stopper playing for Paris Saint-Germain, may have to end his rich football career. This is due to a lingering calf muscle injury.

Sergio Ramos won all he could with Real Madrid and made history as one of the most successful figures in Spanish football. But last summer he failed to agree a contract extension with Los Blancos and moved to Paris Saint-Germain.

Contrary to high expectations, however, he has played just 239 minutes in the league this season due to lingering injuries. So there was understandably heightened nervousness at the Parc des Princes. Ramos is almost certain to miss the Champions League semi-final with his former employers Madrid.

But according to Le Parisien, it is not just the next few games that are at risk, but Ramos’ entire career. The lingering problems with his calf muscles are the same as those that plagued the player at the end of last season in Spain. Interestingly, however, he is now troubled by his right calf, whereas previously he had problems with the left one.

Jean-Marcel Ferret, former French national team doctor, has taken a clear stance on his health problems. “This type of injury is very difficult because you can never predict how it will develop, ” he told Le Parisien on Ramos’ complications.

“Everything is about the configuration of the calf muscle. You have to take into account the fact of how the muscles have aged in relation to the blows Ramos has taken in his 19-year career at the highest level,” describing the loss of flexibility in Ramos’ muscles. His calves are reportedly much more fragile and he also attributes the problems to improper rehabilitation methods, where the Spaniard may have weakened one leg by strengthening the other.

Sergio Ramos is thus caught in a vicious circle. Whenever he increases the intensity of training after the first adaptation phase has been mastered, the problems return.

Of course, the player himself is already tired of this situation and, especially from a psychological point of view, it is not easy for him. That is why thoughts of leaving are reportedly already creeping into his head. Time will tell how much longer he will be running around on football lawns.
