Leverkusen’s start to the season has been tragic
A look at the Bundesliga table after eight rounds played offers many surprises. Union Berlin is at the top, Frankfurt is second and only Bayern Munich holds third place. And before the season, unthinkable things can also be observed at the other end of the table.
Bayer Leverkusen, who kept all key players and announced an attack for at least second place, is currently second from the end. They have one win, two draws and five losses. Only last-placed Bochum are worse off with a single point.
In addition, the team, which includes Patrik Schick and Adam Hložek, is out of the cup, where they wanted to attack for victory. In the first round, Leverkusen fell out with the newcomer to the third league.
To make matters worse, things are not looking rosy in the Champions League either. However, Leverkusen made up for their unexpected loss to Bruges by beating Atlético Madrid.
Will there be a change of coach?
Given the tragic start, it is not surprising that the club’s management is thinking about how to radically improve the situation as soon as possible. A great solution was offered in the form of a change of coach. One of the greatest coaching aces of today is available on the market.
And that is exactly what Leverkusen have resorted to. Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro has admitted that he is certainly not unprepared for the sacking of coach Gerard Seoane. According to Sport1 chief reporter Patrick Berger, he has already contacted Thomas Tuchel.
Tuchel was recently sacked from Chelsea. Previously, he managed PSG or Borussia Dortmund, for example. He won several trophies in his career and you would hardly find a better coach without a commitment now. Moreover, one with at least a small chance of leading a team other than Bayern in the Bundesliga.
But Leverkusen have reportedly received a negative response. Tuchel had to turn down the offer to become head coach. However, it is possible that negotiations will continue.
