Cristiano Ronaldo may not have said the last word in Europe. He may have signed for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia over the weekend, but Spanish newspaper MARCA has come up with some very interesting news.

For most, this is almost the end of Cristiano Ronaldo’s career and a sad retreat from glory. Even the Portuguese himself must see this as a step down as he was initially looking for a club playing Champions League.

Where Ronaldo will improve, however, is on the financial side. In Saudi Arabia, he will receive over €200 million a year, a staggering and unimaginable sum. So far, Kylian Mbappé, who is paid €67 million a year by PSG, has received the most.

Only, as we have already mentioned, Al-Nassr may not be Ronaldo’s final destination. Spanish daily MARCA and several other media outlets have come out with the information that the best goalscorer in history has a certain clause in his contract.

The latter guarantees that if Newcastle finish in the Premier League in the places guaranteeing the Champions League, Ronaldo can leave for the black-and-white in the summer to still play his beloved competition, in which he holds almost all the important records.

Newcastle is in fact owned by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, which is controlled by Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman, the de facto ruler of the country. So moving Ronald from Al-Nasser to Newcastle will be no problem.

The Magpies are indeed in the Top 4 so far, in third place with 34 points after 17 games played. Fourth placed Manchester United have one game less and two points less, second placed Citizens have two points more and also one game less.

Newcastle are 4 points ahead of Tottenham in fifth place, but tonight they will face a tough test, as they will challenge leaders Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. However, if they secure the Champions League, they may have some interesting reinforcements in the summer.
