15. on January 1, the minor league scene – LCKCL – will begin its journey in Korea ahead of LCK. This year could be a turning point for the attention of audiences outside Korea. Will one of Europe’s greatest legends Rekkles help with that?

The Korean Challenger is perhaps a somewhat unfairly neglected competition among Western audiences. A competition where new stars are born for LCK and international competitions can surprise and show a bit more open play compared to the elite LCK.

In the last three years the LCKCL has produced a number of exciting players that we see across the world leagues. For example, LEC currently has four players (Photon, Noah, Jun and Ice) who have come through the system. And the likes of 18 year old Peyz, playing for GenG in LCK, is already one of the best marksmen in the world.

Rekkles has joined the T1 team

This year, the LCKCL may gain momentum in terms of spectator interest. It has been known for some time that one of Europe’s greatest legends, Rekkles, has joined the T1 team.

Rekkles has already gradually transitioned from a marksman role to a support role over the past year. A tribute to this move was his gradual retreat from the main Fnatic roster to a sub position last year.

Rekkles is certainly not afraid of a challenge and has decided to make the move to the Korean ecosystem. A player full of experience and with the hallmark of a very popular western star, he will definitely be a big draw for Koreans. Moreover, working with T1 will always be attractive.

The question is whether Rekkles will immediately start in the first game against Kwandong Freecs Challengers (January 16). T1 will probably keep that as a surprise. However, just the presence of one of Europe’s legends could do the promotion for the best challenger league in the world.

The latter needs more awareness beyond the experts, after all, its heyday then has a considerable influence on the development of LoL outside Korea. Let’s hope both the league and T1 take this chance to attract new viewers. The league definitely deserves it.
