The saga surrounding AC Milan’s Portuguese star Rafael Leão continues. The 23-year-old winger is still unable to agree terms on a new contract with the Rossoneri and it is possible that the Milan giant will sell him in the summer.
It seems to be a crucial period for AC Milan and Rafael Leão as far as signing a new contract is concerned. Indeed, Italian journalist Daniele Longo reported that Ricky Massara and Paolo Maldini will want to resume contract extension talks during the national break.
This is because if the club’s management and Leão do not agree on new terms, AC will want to sell him in the summer. The Almada native has a contract in Milan until the end of June next year, according to the Transfermarkt website, his current market value is €80 million.
The player himself is reportedly interested in staying at the club. There is a fundamental difference between the terms offered by AC and those demanded by Leão and his entourage.
According to the latest reports, Milan have offered the Portuguese winger a salary of €6 million for one season, plus bonuses. However, Leão is demanding 7.5 million from the club’s management.
Two key points will be addressed at the next meeting, which will be attended by both sides. One is the salary offered and the other is the payment of a €15 million fine to Sporting.
At the same time, Leão expects a significant amount from AC in terms of signing bonus. However, the Rossoneri are not open to that option at the moment.
The 23-year-old Portuguese is a key member of AC’s line-up and one of the biggest stars in Serie A. It was Leão who was one of the key factors in the chase for Scudetto last year. He scored 11 goals and assisted 10 more in 34 league games in the 2021/22 season.
In the current season, he has scored eight times in 25 league games and has registered seven assists.
