Will Patrik Schick finally fulfill his potential? Euro 2020 could be a turning point in his career
Patrik Schick is undoubtedly the best Czech striker Jaroslav Šilhavy has at his disposal at the moment. And he finally managed to sell his potential to the full at this year’s European Championship.
Patrik Schick is undoubtedly the best Czech striker Jaroslav Šilhavy has at his disposal at the moment. And he finally managed to sell his potential to the full at this year’s European Championship. Will the 25-year-old cannon player continue these performances or will he return to his old ways?
The author of 15 national team goals has already achieved quite a lot for his age. Especially when it comes to travelling. After stints in Italy, he is now trying out the German Bundesliga, where he first failed to catch on at RB Leipzig and so headed to Leverkusen.
However, the 2020/21 season can certainly not be judged as a successful one, as Schick managed to score 13 times in 36 games and added only 2 assists. Bayer definitely expects more goals from their main striker and from this point of view the Czech striker is clearly a disappointment.
He was more successful in the Bundesliga in the 2019/20 season, when he still scored 10 goals in 22 league games for Leipzig, while this season he has only scored 9 times in 29 games.
At the Euro, however, Schick was on a roll, scoring five of the Czech team’s six goals. He currently tops the scorers’ table along with Cristiano Ronaldo.
Let’s hope that the Czech striker will finally make his mark and show his talent, which many Czech experts believe he has.
Of course, it should also be stressed that not many young strikers are able to pull their team through the whole season with goals like Erling Haaland. Strikers simply need to mature in most cases and the same is true for Schick, who can still be considered young.
So let’s hope that the Euros will help his confidence, keep him injury free and he will start scoring at least 15 league goals a season on a regular basis, which could earn him an even better deal soon.
We’ll add a few more stats to prove what a great championship Schick had. In the Czech team, he was by far the highest rated player (Schick – 7.55, Coufal – 7.31) according to Whoscored with Vladimir Coufal.
The two aforementioned footballers are also in the lineup of the tournament so far thanks to their great performances. Let’s see if they will receive this honour at the end of the tournament.
