Will Novak Djokovic lose his world number one position?

Novak Djokovic is undoubtedly one of the best tennis players in history. He is currently number one on the ATP rankings, but that may change after Wimbledon. Who can dethrone him and under what conditions?
Novak Djokovic is currently at the top of the ATP rankings with 12,113 points. The second position is occupied by the Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev, who scored 10 280 points. It is he who could reach the very top after Wimbledon.
But to do so, the 25-year-old Moscow native would need to win the whole tournament. That is unlikely given his performances at Wimbledon in previous years, where his best is the third round.
Overall, Novak Djokovic, the thirty-four-year-old Serbian tennis player, has already spent 327 weeks at the top of the ATP rankings. Not even Jimmy Connors, John McEnroe, Ivan Lendl, Pete Sampres, Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal have reached that number.
If we look at Novak Djokovic’s recent performances, we can expect him to spend more weeks at the top of the rankings. After all, he won the Australian Open and the French Open in 2021 and he is the biggest favourite to win Wimbledon as well.
However, the attention of the tennis player who has been playing on the ATP circuit since 2003 will undoubtedly be focused on the upcoming Olympic Games. It may well be his last chance to win a gold medal.
Djokovic’s best result from the Olympics is third place from 2008. Back then, the tournament’s number three player beat James Blake 6:3 and 7:6 in the bronze medal match.
