According to the latest information, Napoli could lose their star player. Piotr Zielinski is reportedly set to high-five Inter, with the transfer expected to take place in the summer transfer window, according to reports in Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Piotr Zielinski left for Italy back in 2011, when he moved from Polish side Lubin to Udinese’s academy. A year later, he earned an engagement in the A-team.
At the end of August 2014, he then went on loan to Empoli, only returning to Udinese in June 2016. And in August of that year, he received an offer from Napoli, which he took up. The Partenopei paid 16 million euros for the Polish midfielder at the time.
And it paid off. Because the twenty-nine-year-old Polish footballer has already paid the club several times after so many years thanks to his performances.
Zielinski has since played 353 competitive games for Napoli, scoring 50 goals and also recording 46 assists as a central midfielder. He dominated the Coppa Italia in the 2019/20 season with the Partenopei, winning the coveted title last season.
However, the fact remains that Zielinski is only under contract at Napoli until June this year. Signing a new contract is rather unlikely, with Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport reporting that the Polish footballer has already had a high-five with Inter.
Zielinski to Inter?
The Polish international is said to have already verbally agreed with Inter on the terms of a new contract. The aforementioned Italian newspaper reports that Zielinski has agreed with the Italian big club on a contract valid until June 2027 and an annual salary of €4.5 million.
However, if Zielinski is indeed to move to the current Serie A leader, it should only happen in the summer transfer window.
That’s when the twenty-nine-year-old midfielder’s contract in Naples expires and he will become a free agent. Finally, it is important to note that no club has yet matched Inter’s stipulated terms. Neither Napoli nor the other interested party Juventus.
